Preseason is always an exciting and bittersweet time of year. Constant photos streaming on Instagram and Facebook of last seasons highlights, snow guns firing, and all our favorite spots opening up is a fun reminder of the shred that awaits us in the up and coming weeks. With temperatures still fluctuating heavily it’s always an anxious month of high hopes and let downs.
Who will be riding first in the nation? Who will be the first to open in New England? Is it going to be Killington Mountain in Vermont, or is Sunday River in Bethel, Maine going to take the title, or maybe some other, unexpected resort. Looks like this year with some great temps and the right conditions, Killington was able to make it happen and we are hopeful that with the weather pattern we seem to be in, Sunday River and Sugarloaf won’t be far behind.
We are over excited for that first nerve racking decent on the sketchy preseason chairlift ramps, where anything can, and usually does happen. We are also looking forward to the parking lot antics as the entire gang laces, straightens out, tucks in, unpacks, and double-checks everything for the first time in awhile. Breakfast sandwiches on the drive up, coffees, a quick stop at the Bethel skatepark, and radio station musical chairs are a few of the highlights of our preseason travels.
Are we ready to ride? Yes. Are we ready for you to be riding? Yes. Do we wish we were all riding together, right now? Yes.
Although we aren’t out there just yet, take this time to appreciate and enjoy the build up to the start of our season. Dig out your gear, find out what you need to replace, and what’s still working, get your snowboard tuned, and start hyping up your friends and crew. Here’s to a great season to come, and a life full of great seasons of the past! Get excited, get ready and come ride with us! Maine is about to get rolling and you’re not going to want to miss this one! Winter 2017 will take no prisoners!
